When I was younger, my family used to visit a neighborhood store. It was one of those stores that knew your name and you felt like they were an extension of your own family. In today’s age of digital conveniences, we often find ourselves dealing with automated customer service and self check outs. Gone are the days when shopping felt personal and retailers were right there, ready to help.
This is not the case at Brilliant Sky Toys and Books. Brilliant Sky Toys and Books is a specialty shop who firmly believes in the old-school concept of Service with a Smile! Their mission is to personally assist their customers by providing them with an interactive shopping experience while dazzling the shopper with their high-quality specialty products. The toys you find at Brilliant Sky are ones reflect the belief that “the right playthings give children a gateway to physical, emotional and cognitive development”. Their products are special, educational and innovative. Those qualities are celebrated by Brilliant Sky in their annual Brilliance Awards!
Each year, Brilliant Sky Toys& Books picks a few distinct specialty toys that represent the ideals that founded the company and feature them in their Brilliance Awards! These toys are ones that show “the importance of quality, the value of open-ended play and the simple beauty of a child’s fascination and delight”. The winners are showcased in their Holiday Catalog. We had a chance to try out one of the winners from this year, the Suspend Game!
The Suspend Game is a game of stability and is ideal for kids over age eight. It that features 24 notched, rubber-tipped wire pieces that when added to the base one by one, completely alters the balance and security of the structure. The game can be played with up to four players and it gets very intense trying to get all the pieces suspended without a collapse!
Reagan sat outside for hours playing this game with neighbor kids taking turns challenging her! She has claimed the title of Suspend Master around here. When she can’t find someone willing to take her own, she spends her time trying to suspend each piece symmetrically. I heard more than one shout of frustration as it all came crashing down on her.

It’s a really fun game for the entire family. We will all gather around the kitchen bar and play while we wait for dinner to finish cooking or for those few minutes before the bus comes. Why does this one make the Brilliance Awards 2012? “The best games are the ones that the whole family can enjoy at once – age and smarts don’t matter in this game, just guts and a steady hand.”

Limited Edition Hand-blown Glass Ornaments and Designer Ornaments: Glass Eye Studio creates these unique ornaments in their ‘hot shop’ in Seattle. Brilliant colors meld to create this breathtaking collection of treasures including the Red Spin Heart, Olympic Raindrop, and 2011’s limited-edition Holiday Globe. Every piece has its own unique characteristics, and each piece is signed and dated and comes with a free velvet keepsake box.

The umbrella has protruding dragon horns and wings, with a knight, fire, and a castle motif along the bottom. I love how the handle looks like a sword handle!
The helmet on the matching raincoat is Kidorable’s coolest hood so far. The new coat material is made of polyurethane so it’s softer and lighter than the PVC.
The backpack is shaped like a shield for extra play value. It comes with a little stuffed toy sword.
The rainboots are the cutest! When you put the toes together it looks like the flame on one foot is coming out of the dragon on the other foot. I love the Kidorable Crest as well!
Even big, brave Knight’s need a little rest and relaxation! So when they are done battling the dragon, Mom can hang up his suit of armor on the adorable hangers for the next big adventure!
