Maya Organic Toys Now Available at Dandelion Baby! Review + Giveaway

With so many toys on the market, I prefer to shop for ones that are more than just a simple play thing but promote creativity and imagination. I also tend to favor wooden toys for their durability and they are certainly more eco-friendly than their plastic counterparts. For these reasons, Dandelion Baby is one of my favorite online stores. I recently had the opportunity to try one of the wooden toys from Maya Organic. My grandson, Liam, is fascinated by trains so I knew without a doubt that the Pom Pom Rail Pull Toy would win his heart!

The handcrafted Pom Pom Rail has one engine, two wagons and is made from sustainable hale or rubber-wood. One of my favorite features of this train is the finish. Maya Organic uses only non-toxic, natural dyes and finishes. So the blue paint you see is actually made from extracts from the Indigo Plant. This ensures a high level of quality and safety, something that is important with little children who may still put things in their mouth. Couple the natural dyes with the wooden construction and you have an eco-friendly toy that will last from kid to kid.

The Pom Pom Rail measures just over 10 inches long making it the perfect size for little hands. It has an adjustable safety pull cord. YES, a safety cord! This has long been a complaint of mine when purchasing pull toys. I had visions of cords being wrapped around little necks and it always scared me. In fact, we either cut the cords off to mere inches (I know, right? Why buy a pull toy?) or stored the pull toys high in a cupboard when she wasn’t being fully supervised with it.

The Pom Pom Rail’s cord is comprised of three sections that velcro together. So if a child happens to get the cord tangled around himself, it will detach. It’s also a great feature to adjust the height of the cord to fit the child pulling the train.

So what did Liam think? Well, it’s safe to say, he loves the Pom Pom Rail. He spent the afternoon, pulling his train and trying to keep up with Kinsley. It rolls swimmingly across any surface and aside from a few times that I had to flip the last car over after he ran too fast with it, we had no issues at all.

This is where I give you a word of caution. The concrete is not gentle on the paint nor the wood. Because the sidewalk surface is so porous, it can damage the train. We had one little smoke stack look slightly tattered after the days events. I am keeping this train indoors or on the grass from now on.

The Pom Pom Rail is a big hit and as always, our love for Dandelion Baby has grown even more!

I didn’t get my drivers license until I was 24 years old. Because of this, I walked everywhere. While it was great exercise, it wasn’t always fun toting little kids with me in all sorts of weather. As a mother to five daughters, I am no stranger to baby dolls. We have owned countless dolls throughout the years and each girl has a favorite I have saved for them to give to their own daughters. Another very cool feature I simply adore, is that the Götz dolls are completely machine washable (except the standing dolls). Simply place the doll in a pillowcase and wash on a cold, delicate cycle. To dry, lay the baby belly down until dry. There are even dolls that are made for water play. The Aquinis line of dolls are vinyl/soft-bodied waterproof babies. Some of the Aquinis babies can even drink and go to the potty!

We recently had the opportunity to try out the Jessica Gotz Doll. Jessica stands 18 inches, has blond hair, blue eyes and wears a cute floral shirt and jeans accented with little pink hearts. With little white sneakers and a tiny tote bag, she is the spitting image of Kinsley!

The high quality craftsmanship and attention to details is evident in our Jessica doll. Her clothing as realistic as Kinsley’s own clothing, like button holes on her shirt, so she she can dress Jessica in the same fashion she dresses herself. The clothing can be washed and ironed, too.

Jessica’s shoes can even be tied!

The eyes open and close and are the exact shade of blue as Kinsley’s eyes.

In fact, all the facial details are soft and delicate like you would expect any child to naturally look.

The body has movable, vinyl limbs and head but the body is soft and filled with wool and fine granulates.

Kinsley loves having a mini-me and totes Jessica everywhere she goes. Jessica sleeps with her night and rides bikes with her. It’s so cute for Kinsley to have a little friend who looks just like her!

The good:

We ate wonderful food, were never hungry and our bodies love us for it!

The bad:

There are diet restrictions. No wheat, corn, dairy, soy, refined sugar, caffeine, alcohol, dried fruit or fruit juices, artificial sweeteners and fat-free diet foods.

You read that right.

When I first started reading the book, I was a bit overwhelmed. Not to mention, I was crazy addicted to Pepsi. I just kept repeating to myself “it’s only 28 days, it’s only 28 days”. But honestly, it’s pretty easy. You won’t miss any of those things. Well, maybe cheese. My husband really missed cheese during his two weeks.

You have to eat 5 times a day. This can be daunting because you are eating so much and you don’t want to eat anymore. It can also be stressful because you are like “I HAVE TO EAT RIGHT NOW”. You want to eat because if your body thinks you aren’t going to eat, it stores fat instead of burning it. Eat and burn. Eat and burn.

You have to drink half your body weight in ounces each day. You will pee. And you will pee a lot.

The Ugly:

Although you can eat things that you buy in a normal grocery store, there are some things that are more expensive and must be purchased at specialty stores. It’s tempting to go out and buy all those specialty items but wait and see what recipes you want to make (or adapt from ones you love) before going hog wild.

Maintenance:

Some people go right into another 28 days. Some do it every 3 months. Some do one week a month. No matter what you do after the diet, you are left with an education about food. You know what to look for in food and what is good for you and want to make your choices based on that education. You may come across a cupcake and you will eat it like a boss because moderation is key. You can have your cake and eat it too…just not every day. For those days that bad food just “fall into your mouth”, Haylie has “morning after” recipes to will kick that cupcake to the curb.

My Tips:

Get a diet buddy. It’s more fun with a friend. I did this diet with my mom and my husband. I was lucky enough to be in two Facebook groups and Haylie just recently put up a forum on her site. She is also very active on her Facebook, so if you have a question, that is a good place to begin.
Plan, Plan, Plan. Make your meal plans a week at a time so you know what you are making and when. You will think a lot about food in the first week but after that, everything goes in stride.
Enjoy eating. If you want to lose more than 20 pounds, you will eat more…even double. Don’t stress or feel guilty. Your body needs this to work so enjoy eating like a crazy person.

The Fast Metabolism Diet is available in hardcover and eBook. I recommend the hardcover because I have read that the eBook meal plans do not show well in the eBook. There is also a Fast Metabolism Diet App available on iTunes (there isn’t an andriod version yet).

With spring upon us and the sun shining, I am really getting restless for warmer weather. What’s a girl to do in the mean time? Spring Clean, of course! There is nothing like a bit of sunshine drifting in the windows to show you how completely cluttered and dusty the house has become over the long winter. There is a closet full of snow boots to be packed away, windows to be washed, and for us, a whole winter’s worth of craft supplies to be organized.

Kinderfeets Balance Bike Review and Giveaway

Kinsley turns four this summer and my husband and I have been contemplating if her birthday is the right time to purchase a big girl bike for her. I know she will outgrow her tricycles soon but an actual bicycle seems like such a big step! To ease the transition, we have started her on the Kinderfeets balance bike.

Kinderfeets is a great way for kids to learn balance in preparation for a traditional two wheel bike. It is a hand-made, wooden pushbike with foot pegs.

When our Kinderfeets Yellow Pushbike arrived, I immediately noticed the quality workmanship. It was beautiful and I was very impressed! I had to assemble the bike. This is a task I usually leave to my husband but he wasn’t due home for awhile and Kinsley was very excited to try it. I sat down to work and discovered it was very easy to assemble (under five minutes) and Kinderfeets even included the necessary tools.

The Kinderfeets bikes feature a padded and washable seat cover.

The handlebars are also padded for comfort and safety.

You will never have to worry about pumping up tires because Kinderfeets tires are airless!

As an added fun bonus, the Kinderfeets bike has a chalkboard finish. Kids can bling their bike with their own personal art!

Kinsley is really enjoying learning to balance with her Kinderfeets bike. When she first hopped on the bike and realized she has to make it stand up, she looked at me with doubt. I explained how it worked and once she understood, she took to it right away.
